Oh, yeah, the Doctor's fluffy bunnies all the way--till that approach blows up in his face, then he pitches a fit & goes all Bronze Age on the offenders *cough*Family of Blood.

It makes a better story when a writer has the guts to follow a difficult or horrific problem the characters have through to a realistic conclusion; I loathe stories where heroes are confronted with harsh but necessary decisions but instead of having to make them, everything magically works out.

Given Jack's situation, I'm not sure if warped is the right word, but sometimes his actions & decisions aren't entirely rational--or even mostly. But a character that deliciously complex certainly offers myriad possibilities of plot & theme.
