Yes, it was rather a long time ago for Jack, and even if you count his brief stint in the Blitz when he met the Doctor, that was still some 70-ish years back from where he is here - he can't really be expected to remember all the details!

And you're not the only one who likes the outsider's view - there is something rather fascinating about seeing how these guys come across to someone who isn't part of the group. :)
