I've noticed; it's one very important reason I follow your writing. I have a very low tolerance for sentimental fic (increasingly less as I get older) mostly because the characters are so unrealistically, ragingly dysfunctional in terms of being able to function in just an everyday 9-to-5 job & Saturday night bowling context, never mind an action/adventure or SF/fantasy context--& I feel a soapbox oration coming on, so I'd better call a halt to *that* right now. Anyway, I appreciated your *realistic* portrayal of Jack's very complex emotional life & history.
