She was young, lowly, her broodmates' strengths swiftly eclipsing her own. And so she left the fragrant darkness, venturing outwards, upwards –
She never thought to find another pack.
They weren't of her kind – mindblind, malformed, their ways as cruelly alien as their shape – but she could feel their Alpha's age, its wisdom. This was one to follow, to obey, and if she didn't always comprehend its commands, it was her own failing. She feared it, revered it, sought its approval... and, tasting the emotions of her new kin, knew that she was not the only one held in its thrall.
