Author: Aeshna
Fandom: Torchwood
Rating: PG, gen
Word count: 735
Characters: Jack Harkness, Gwen Cooper, Owen Harper, Toshiko Sato
Summary: "Toshiko, if you'd care to lead? No time like the present, after all...."
Spoilers: None
Disclaimer: Not mine, no matter how many DVDs and toys I buy! Everything here belongs to RTD and to Auntie Beeb, who already has my licence fee.
Notes: Written for [livejournal.com profile] pimpmytardis for the 2008 round of [livejournal.com profile] fandom_stocking, but it seemed a bit strange to post it in January when everything went live, so it's going out now!

Thanks as always to [livejournal.com profile] mimarie for sterling beta work – any remaining weirdnesses are all mine. Feedback of any variety is much appreciated but not compulsory – I'll post anyway! I've suffered for my art, now it's your turn....

All That Glitters... )
Yay! The 2009 TARDIS Big Bang site is now live, with many hefty Who-verse fics and lots of artwork!

For anyone who has been wondering what the heck happened to my usual semi-regular fic posting schedule over the past few months... er, this did. What do you know – apparently I can write long! Novel-length long, as it turns out. There will now follow a lot of catching up with various bits and pieces that have been neglected over the past three months or so....

Title: And Seven for a Secret
Author: Aeshna
Fandom: Torchwood
Rating: R for violence and language, gen
Word count: 58,327
Characters: Jack Harkness, OCs
Summary: If you are reading this then I am dead, and with my death dies a promise I made a long, long time ago... When Ben Haldane is left a cryptic note in his grandfather's will, it leads him to a story far stranger than he could ever have imagined.
Disclaimer: Not mine, no matter how many DVDs and toys I buy! Everything here belongs to RTD and to Auntie Beeb, who already has my licence fee.
Archive: Sure, whoever wants it – just let me know where it ends up!
Notes: This was written for the 2009 [livejournal.com profile] tardis_bigbang challenge – the link below goes to their website – and is easily the single longest thing that I've ever produced. The basic idea was one that had been floating around in my brain for a while, but it really took form as I researched the era I was playing with – I had been planning to invent a mad Nazi version of Torchwood, but then found that Himmler had rather beaten me to it! Well, if it was good enough for Indiana Jones.... ;)

Thanks as always to [livejournal.com profile] mimarie for sterling beta work, and also to [livejournal.com profile] kris4n6 and [livejournal.com profile] sffuzzywriter for read-throughs and much-needed encouragement along the way – any remaining weirdnesses (and there are probably a few in my mangling of the German language!) are all mine. Thanks also to [livejournal.com profile] neth_dugan and [livejournal.com profile] wihluta for the illustrations! Feedback of any variety is much appreciated but not compulsory – I'll post anyway! I've suffered for my art, now it's your turn....

Title: Familiar Strangers
Author: Aeshna
Fandom: Torchwood/Doctor Who
Rating: PG, gen
Word count: 784
Characters: Jack Harkness (sort of), Tenth Doctor
Summary: Was this what they saw when they looked at him, the Doctor wondered – a creature far beyond any simple understanding, ancient and dangerous and all too perceptive?
Spoilers: none
Disclaimer: Not mine, no matter how many DVDs and toys I buy! Everything here belongs to RTD and to Auntie Beeb, who already has my licence fee.
Archive: Sure, whoever wants it – just let me know where it ends up!
Notes: Written for [livejournal.com profile] fox1013's Gen Battle – in other words, yet more 7-800 word comment fic! I had hoped to do more for the Gen Battle, but somehow February proved to be a bit of a washout on the writing front.... Prompt was "Crossover, TW/DW, Jack and Ten, 3 million years in the future, NO FOB". This is thematically similar to a much longer piece that I poke at occasionally, but as that shows no sign of being finished any time soon, I'm letting a few ideas out to play here.... :)

Title: In the Bleak Midwinter
Author: Aeshna
Fandom: Torchwood
Rating: PG, gen
Word count: 3,376
Characters: Jack Harkness, OCs
Summary: The world was hemmed in, above and below and around, and it just wasn't fair – the war wasn't even two years past, the country still surviving on basic rations and sheer bloody-mindedness, and for a winter like this to hit now....
Spoilers: none
Disclaimer: Not mine, no matter how many DVDs and toys I buy! Everything here belongs to RTD and to Auntie Beeb, who already has my licence fee.
Archive: Sure, whoever wants it – just let me know where it ends up!
Notes: I've actually had this one finished a while but had a vague plan regarding illustrations. However, the art isn't working (may try again at a later date) and the weather outside seems to be suggesting that I attempt to look topical, so.... ;) Thanks as always to [livejournal.com profile] mimarie for sterling beta services – any remaining weirdnesses are all mine. Disclaimer: Not mine, no matter how many DVDs and toys I buy! Everything here belongs to RTD and to Auntie Beeb, who already has my licence fee.

Notes: Written for the [livejournal.com profile] consci_fan_mo comm, prompt "Torchwood; Jack, Myfanwy; thinking of home" I do love poking at Jack's long history in Torchwood – there's just so much potential there – and there is nothing that isn't cool about having a pet pterodactyl in the rafters. ;)

Disclaimer: Not mine, no matter how many DVDs and toys I buy! Everything here belongs to RTD and to Auntie Beeb, who already has my licence fee.
Archive: Sure, whoever wants it – just let me know where it ends up!
Notes: Not got much written this last month or so, but just remembered that I still had this clogging up the hard drive! A slightly expanded version of something small and smutty and violent I wrote for [livejournal.com profile] oxoniensis's last Porn Battle, prompt "Torchwood, Jack/John, barfight, punch". These two are rather fun to write – they have such a gloriously screwed-up relationship and they both know it....

Title: Touching Blue
Author: Aeshna
Fandom: Torchwood
Rating: PG
Word count: 777
Characters: Jack Harkness, Gerald Carter
Summary: ...and, if there was even one reason to be thankful for his strange immortality, it would be that he had lived long enough to reach this moment.
Spoilers: only for Jack's length of service with the Institute.
Disclaimer: Not mine, no matter how many DVDs and toys I buy! Everything here belongs to RTD and to Auntie Beeb, who already has my licence fee.
Archive: Sure, whoever wants it – just let me know where it ends up!
Notes: A slightly expanded version of something I wrote for the latest [livejournal.com profile] bringthehappy challenge, prompt "Torchwood; Jack; kite". This is something that I've actually wanted to play with for a while (and alluded to somewhat in "Strange Monsters") – Jack has lived through some terrible times and done a lot of terrible things, but it hasn't been all bad.... :) In case anybody is interested, Jack's toy is one of these.

Rating: PG, gen
Word count: 2,833
Characters: Jack Harkness, the Girl
Summary: "'Turn twice' you said. Well, that was number two and, god knows, I'm ready to just get the hell out of here...."
Spoilers: TW 2.12 Fragments
Disclaimer: Not mine, no matter how many DVDs and toys I buy! Everything here belongs to RTD and to Auntie Beeb, who already has my licence fee.
Archive: Sure, whoever wants it – just let me know where it ends up!
Notes: This was one of those odd bunnies that mugged me out of nowhere – I was waiting for a lift at work one morning and suddenly found that I had dialogue running through my head. Happily, I was the only one there as it might have been awkward explaining just why I was suddenly swearing aloud for no particular reason.... ;) It took a while to settle into a solid form after that initial burst, but I got there in the end!

Title: King and Country
Author: Aeshna
Fandom: Torchwood
Rating: PG, gen
Word count: 1,504
Characters: Jack Harkness, King Edward VIII, OCs

Disclaimer: Not mine, no matter how many DVDs and toys I buy! Everything here belongs to RTD and to Auntie Beeb, who already has my licence fee.
Archive: Sure, whoever wants it – just let me know where it ends up!
Notes: This is a bunny I've had a while, which has finally made it out into the world via a small writing challenge with [livejournal.com profile] mimarie. I find Jack's history with Torchwood utterly fascinating – there's so much more to him than his relationships in the present and, now that we've effectively been given the entirety of the twentieth century to play in, it seems only polite to start throwing him into various historical events....

Notes: The funny thing about facts is that, even if always true, they're often only demonstrable under certain conditions. Evidence to date suggests that Jack is one such. A little exploration of something we saw in TW2.13, "Exit Wounds", taking a slightly different tack to most of the other fics I've seen based on this particular situation. :)

Notes: And now for something a little different – inspiration for this one came about on a recent trip to the US, while looking at the mineralogy display in the Field Museum in Chicago. They have a rather pretty piece of mesolite in their display and the rest just sort of followed on from there, with a few bits of dialogue culled from a snippet written last year.
