This is not, in fact, the fic that I set out to write for this challenge – I do intend to go back to that one, but I realised that it was rather more plot-intensive than I'd originally thought and that it was unlikely I'd get it done inside a month! So this is something of a prequel to the fic I'd actually planned – I hope it works okay. :)
