The temporally-challenged types need to stick together. ;) I imagine that Jack quite likes not being the only one there....
Worse comes to worse, he could always see if the Doctor could pick one up for him.
And get the lecture about not being able to look after his own pets? ;) Much more fun to work out the logistics of it for himself!
