In this, at least, the TARDIS's timing was impeccable – she alone understood why he could not give Rose the lie she thought she needed. His ninth self – broken, needy, adrift – might have found some truth in the words, but he –
He didn't know when Rose had become the needy one. When she had begun to lose touch with her sense of wonder, with the very humanity that had restored his shattered purpose....
It was time to let go. A final farewell in a supernova's glare, stardeath and stardust and now –
"Ah! Who are you?!!"
– now that was more like it!
