She hit the ground hard, the shock of impact swallowed by the stench of ozone and a magnesium brilliance that almost seared away her retinas. For long moments she couldn't breathe, couldn't think, and then the light faded and there was a solid body crushing her into the grass, tangling her limbs, a heartbeat pressed against her own as grey wool settled heavily around her.
Dizzy with reaction, she looked up into amused blue eyes and a broad smile that promised entirely too much. "What...?"
"That?" The smile widened. "That, DCI Swanson, is why we're taking over your crime scene."
